Website: bluemouth inc Dance performance and contest in one, bluemouth inc's 'Dance Marathon' at the Harbourfront was an interesting multimedia collaboration with professional and amateur volunteer dancers, singers, keyboardist and drummer, film projection, referree on rollerblades and red flag to eliminate dancers, and the audience who may participate as volunteer dancers. Most of the floor space was used as a racetrack with foot prints and the dancers going around in circles or dancing partnered until eliminated. The center had the singers and musicians while the contest continued with announcements of the eliminations. The dancers had numbers on them to make it easier to announce them. Marathons are usually won by whoever can last the longest through various dances. This marathon may probably be something exciting to participate in for all those who enjoy going to clubs and dance halls for their weekend entertainment, if it emphasized audience participation and interaction with the professional dancers. The tempo and style of the music and dance went from slow to fast with group to partner jazz and ballroom blends. To watch close up or from the balcony is not the same as to experience being part of it, but it is exciting nevertheless. At the rehearsal with the invited press media, some of those with cameras were running around with the dancers as well to capture the action. Moving around on the floor space with the audience all around is a break away from the traditional stage performance with the audience in front, so this arrangement allows viewpoints from all around. At a festival surrounded by more people or joined by more from the crowd, this dance marathon may have the impact it deserves on the public.
