Something for Everyone V: Affordable Art at Xexe Gallery
Investing in Local Art
OFFLINE
Art is often a reflection and fantasy of reality using artistic and creative imagination in various media such as painting, sculpture, music, product, photograph, film.  Toronto has many local galleries which show local and foreign artists works which are for sale to art fans through the dealers and managers.  Xexe gallery is one of the many galleries with artworks that are affordable done by living modern artists.  Buyers of art usually chose based on their own individual tastes although some may consult with appraisers to find out if certain artworks and artists will become popular and more valuable with time.  This is often a gamble because there were artists who died starving and penniless and  yet many years later their artworks are worth millions!  It is hard to predict the trends and future value of artworks.  There are some talented artists who get grants and commissions from government and patrons while they are alive, but more artists are not making careers of their talents due to lack of market demand or poor management and marketing.  Many middle class and rich homes exist internationally which may be a potential market if any dealer can tap into that.  Businesses which may want to have artworks on their walls for beauty are another potential niche market, from doctors and dentists clinics, beauty salons, restaurants, and offices.  A piece of art can enhance the atmosphere of an ordinary space and be appreciated by those in the public who avoid galleries.  Art can fit into the ordinary spaces we frequent.  It should actually be seen by everyone, not only art fans.  Popularizing art can be a challenge and the media with articles and reviews can help spread the word on artists whose works can stimulate imagination and create beauty in our ordinary lives.  Originals are of course more expensive being unique but even copies of artworks on posters and postcards can be appreciated by those with less money.  Affordable art is definitely within reach.  Most galleries are free for viewing and sometimes have opening receptions with refreshments to attract the public.  Listings in the entertainment papers such as the NOW and Eyeweekly are useful for those who are curious to check out the local galleries.  Perhaps, buying an artwork can be a special gift for a love one and who knows what it could be worth years later in value!  There may be 'something for everyone' after all...
