Event: Mothers Day Date: May 11, 2008 Location: Red Tea Box Mothers Day is the best time to treat your own mother to something extra special, especially if she likes tea and sweets. But even without mother, a friend will do to spend an hour or two over this treat. The Red Tea Box is a cozy specialty restaurant shop where for about $35 including tip, 2 people can share a variety of sweet pastries and a special tea. The portions are small and dainty but this is only for fans of tea and sweets, for gourmets and connoisseurs. The friend I went with comes here once a month and this is her treat for herself, despite being on a shoe string budget the rest of the month. With a pot of Moroccan mint tea (free hot water refills), and 2 little boxes of 4 pastries in each, we proceeded to consume them, taking turns choosing. Baking as an art and design form is easily acknowledgeable based on the desserts here, since the visual appearance has to match the taste. Some of the other bigger pieces cost $11 each! The tables were full so they probably have regulars visiting. It would have been nice to talk about pleasant subjects, but we discussed scientific lab experiments on mice, birds and cross-pollination of plants and flowers, and then onto the court and prison systems. Certainly not appetizing subjects, but that's how our conversation developed. If our mothers were present, we probably would have tried to talk about happier topics, however they were not around. This place is best for special occasions and people, so keep that in mind when you invite someone to share this with.
