Stevie Wonder at the Jazz Festival in Montreal The opening act for the 30th anniversary of the Jazz Festival of Montreal had as main attraction a free concert by 25-time Grammy winner, Stevie Wonder. My friend and I arrived early to try and get a good place for the concert, the Jazz festival is a big place, there are about 8 different scenarios and Wonder was supposed to be in the General Motor Scene. I have to report that we got confused and ended up in the Rio Tinto Scene, which had a giant screen to transmit the concert (this was the place for GM scene last year, which is my excuse for the blunder). It is good htat last year Paul McCartney concert got me used to mistreatment, as my friend and I had to stand the rain for one hour before the concert started. Stevie Wonder is in top form. He played about 30 songs in a more than two-hour long concert. He included a lot of new and little known songs, but also well known famous hits such as Superstition, Cherie Amour, Overjoyed (which is one of my favorites), he also took up Michelle from the Beatles as a wink to the French speaking audience. The most emotional time of the concert was his rendition of I just called to say I love. My friend had tears in her eyes, I mean, we grew up hearing this son on the radio! Very beautiful and it was well worth the wait and the crowding to hear it firsthand. Throughout the concert, Wonder paid tribute to his friend Micheal Jackson. Many of the late singer songs were played back to the delight of the public and the obvious enjoyment of Wonder who defended Jackson against his critics, one day after his suprising demise. On a surprising note, Wonder’s daughter, Aisha, sang one song with the voice of an angel. I am very keen on finding out if she has released a CD, she has an adorable and strong voice that rivals her father’s.
