Yellow Door at St. Joseph House
Relaxing Cozy Open Mic Night
OFFLINE

Location:  St. Joseph House

Every 2nd Saturday of the month, St. Joseph House opens it Yellow Door open mic night to local artists performers to play music and sing, recite poetry, act improv scenes, and anything worth sharing in this cozy relaxed atmosphere.   Refreshments are provided by the house.  There are regular artists who display artworks and teach special art courses for free to the neighborhood, along with health and fitness courses.   This night there were musicians who played the piano, guitar, harmonica and sang, poetry reading, and improv acting.  Community level of talent seems to be more relaxing than exciting without the celebrities.  It felt almost like a private event between family and friends and neighbours, which is probably what it is meant to be -- a casual relaxing night.  No one was criticized at whatever level of performance.  Even beginners in the performing arts would probably be appreciated simply for sharing.  In the start of any artist's career, such support is needed and beneficial for growth.  Criticism is only useful after one has become a professional and needs to improve one's performance for the public.  Dave Walsh, the head of St. Joseph House, dropped by later to appreciate the talents, while Lou Wilkinson hosted at front to greet guests and artists dropping by.  Do visit on Yellow Door nights when you are in the neighbourhood for free entertainment and refreshments.  Everyone is welcome!
